Historical marker guide launched to celebrate Sesquicentennial
The Bowie News has published the first ever Montague County Historical Marker Guide in conjunction with the Sesquicentennial Celebration. The guide covers the nearly 50 markers across the county and their history, along with a locator map. A perfect way to celebrate 150 years of pioneer history in 2008. Guides will be mailed to News subscribers and then will be available for purchase at the Bowie News offices, 218 W. Tarrant, Bowie.
Enjoy all the birthday events this weekend. See the full schedule of events on the community page and a complete history of the county on page 1A of the July 31 edition of The Bowie News. Happy birthday Montague County!
Bowie News seeks helps with stories and photos for 150th birthday special
As part of the celebration of Montague County’s Sesquicentennial, The Bowie News will publish a special section focusing on the history of the county and its many communities.
If you have any unique stories or aspects of history in your town you would like to be included or explored, please contact The Bowie News. The search also includes any old photos from the towns.
The Bowie News staff wants to provide a comprehensive history of the county through this section, and we can do that with the assistance of the community. All photos or other memorabilia will be scanned and returned immediately, so you don’t have to worry about them getting lost or misplaced.
Work has already begun on the section, so please contact the News office as soon as possible.
If you have a special story call Barbara Green or Ryan Evans at The Bowie News office, 872-2247 or email at bnews@sbcglobal.net.
We appreciate any assistance and look forward to the 150th birthday celebration. Help us make it a great birthday!
